Corkline

Gannet Gold Corkline is another joint development with Itsaskorda

Using these corklines results in better stability in the length of the lines used in purse seines, it makes the task of attaching the netting to the lines easier. In these days of a dwindling skilled net labor pool in the fishing industry, it is now possible to assemble nets faster, more securely, and with less experienced labor.

There are many lines that can be used for corklines. I have focused on those made with UHMWPE. The use of these UHMWPE corklines results in better stability in the length of the lines used in purse seines. The 2 lines I work most with are Gannet Gold and Gannet Braid, both a joint development with Itsaskorda, from the Basque area.

I have supplied many corklines made from much less expensive co polymers, and this is always a custom option.

NOTE: See the twine section for a selection of twines to join the loops with, or to lace your netting to the corkline with.

  • Tightly braided high tenacity polyester cover

    Ikore (UHMWPE) core and loops

  • Custom corklines with various heavy duty border netting options, for any fishery, are available upon request.

The distance between the loops can be adjusted, as can the length of the loop. Contact us for details.

  • Gannet Gold Corkline:

This makes the task of attaching the netting to the lines easier and less strenuous. In these days of a dwindling skilled net labor pool in the fishing industry, it is still possible to assemble nets faster, more securely, even without an experienced crew.

This results in the netting attached to the corklines and leadlines maintaining a more stable ratio of 'slackness.’ The loops are 3 times stronger than Nylon of the same diameter and there is no possibility of ‘hanging knot slippage,’ a common problem with conventionally hung corklines.

Traditional hanging knots stand ‘proud’ of the corkline and are therefore the first point of contact when the corkline touches anything, whereas the loops are just part of the smooth surface so are not as prone to abrasion. A traditional 'hanging knot' is difficult to do well, and even when done well, is prone to slipping or abrasion, and loops are the solution to these problems.

    Gannet Braid Corkline:

This is a 100% UHMWPE line of 12 strand construction. Each of the 12 strands is tightly braided, to give significantly increased abrasion resistance over standard 12 strand construction.

I currently stock these in 10 fathom assembled sections for the Alaskan salmon fishery. There is an eye just poking out the float at each end, leaving just enough room to seize to the adjoining eye.

The line holding the floats in place is 5mm UHMWPE and it is locked in place by going through the center of the 12 strands of corkline and then through itself, and then on to the next float.

There is a 5 mesh heavy duty corkline collar of 2.1mm knotless UMHWPE laced to the hangings with UHMWPE twine.

Currently available Sizes: 12mm through 22mm. Other sizes available upon request.

    Reasons for Options:

The netting attached to the corklines and leadlines maintains a more stable ratio of 'slackness.’ The loops are 3 times stronger than Nylon of the same diameter and there is no possibility of ‘hanging knot slippage,’ a common problem with conventionally hung corklines.

Traditional hanging knots stand ‘proud’ of the corkline and are therefore the first point of contact when the corkline touches anything, whereas the loops are just part of the smooth surface so are not prone to abrasion.
